Technical innovation is at the heart of Pluscolor, a print service provider in Barcelona, Spain. What was once a traditional photo lab has transformed over time into a thriving business that offers the latest in digital printing to a global client base. Driven by a desire to offer leading-edge, environmentally responsible solutions, Pluscolor recently turned to HP for a new way of producing durable signage indoors and out.

“Ten years ago, we realized digital was the future of the printing business and we needed to evolve along with the technology,” explains general manager Cesar Augusto, who runs Pluscolor with his brother and fellow manager, Pedro. “We began printing bigger prints than before on a wider range of substrates, expanding our product offering.”

Almost a decade later, the Augustos recognized the opportunity to be on the forefront of another advancement—environmentally responsible printing. Pluscolor embraced HP Latex Printing Technologies, including innovative water-based HP Latex Inks. As a result, they gained the ability to produce durable indoor and outdoor signage that reduces the environmental impact of production.

After adopting HP Latex Printing Technologies, Pluscolor quickly confirmed what they’d always suspected: Given the choice, their customers prefer environmentally responsible print production and output.1 Designed with the environment in mind, the HP Designjet L65500 Printer, HP Latex Inks and HP’s new recyclable substrates 2 all work to reduce the impact of printing.

 

Output from the HP Designjet L65500 Printer is virtually odorless,3 eliminating the need for special ventilation systems and improving Pluscolor’s work environment.

 

“We save time and money on waste management as there is no hazardous waste. There are also no messy daily maintenance routines for operators, so they are happier and we are more productive,” says Cesar.

  • Odorless prints3 produced with HP Latex Inks emit extremely low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and do not require special ventilation.

The HP Designjet L65500 offers exceptional quality and durability for a variety of applications. It is equipped with the following HP technology:

  • Rich color saturation on a wide range of media, using a 6-ink printing system, including an embedded spectrophotometer
  • High-resolution indoor prints, with resolution up to 1200 dpi
  • Consistent color across a variety of substrates, thanks to HP DreamColor Technologies


With projects ranging from indoor signage to building wraps, Pluscolor relies on quality output on a range of media to meet customer demand. “Today there’s a lot of variety in what we do and a high degree of customization using different materials,” explains Cesar. The HP Designjet L65500 Printer prints on a wide variety of media, including HP Permanent Gloss Adhesive Vinyl and HP Heavy Textile Banner.

 

Pluscolor also needs indoor and outdoor prints that can withstand a variety of conditions, especially when delivering outdoor signage. The HP Designjet L65500 Printer produces outdoor prints that are scratch-, smudge- and water-resistant, with performance comparable to that of solvent-ink technology.5 And indoor prints achieve in-window display permanence up to five years unlaminated, and up to ten years laminated.6
