For SPAN Architecture and Design, a small but international architecture firm based in Vienna, Austria, early adoption of technology has helped it compete with much larger companies. Recently, SPAN’s principal Matias del Campo tested the new HP Designjet T2300 eMFP to see if it could help his firm continue to stay ahead of the competition.

- The HP Designjet T2300 eMFP will enable architects and project partners to print, handwrite notes and scan their input back to the web to keep others up to date.1
- Using HP ePrint & Share, everyone involved in a project will be able to access, print and create PDF versions of files, even from smartphones and other web-connected devices.1

The result—del Campo saw major potential in the new eMFP’s ability to produce high-quality large-format prints and improve collaboration. And, HP ePrint & Share, a free web solution for HP Designjet printers that streamlines printing and publishing, will introduce the ability to scan to the web with precision1 and to print from smartphones and other web-connected devices.1
Seamless collaboration One of the biggest challenges for architects like del Campo is how to effectively share information among all the different parties involved in complex architectural and construction projects. SPAN has made a concentrated effort to include partners like structural engineers in the early stages of projects to help them design more intelligent architectural solutions.
As a full-featured large-format multifunction printer that will be able to scan to the web,1 del Campo believes the new HP Designjet T2300 eMFP is a perfect solution for this kind of collaboration. Compared to traditional, linear processes of sending hard copies to distributed teams, del Campo says:
 | | “The HP scan-to-web functionality1 is a fantastic idea in terms of speeding up communication.” |
“It’s like a virtual hard drive that you have all over the planet,” he adds. To make printing and collaboration even more seamless, the HP Designjet T2300 eMFP also enables printing directly from USB flash drives and laptops without network or driver installation.
Mobile productivity“I travel a lot, flying around Europe and also China and South America,” del Campo explains. “At any time, I have to be accessible and have access to the files we’re working on.”
Del Campo says many of the HP Designjet T2300 eMFP’s new features could help him stay connected when he’s on the go. As of 2011, HP ePrint & Share will allow users like del Campo to open PDFs and other files from their smartphones, make comments or changes, and share them directly from their phones anywhere they can connect to the web.1 HP ePrint & Share will also allow users to print to their web-connected HP Designjet T2300 eMFP from any other web-connected device.1
“For us, technology is not only a tool to materialize ideas, but an important partner in a creative process that demands a high degree of mobility,” says del Campo. “Using HP ePrint & Share on the go, I think, is a very powerful tool for us to communicate with all parties involved in a project.”
Outpacing the competitionFor all of its technology advancements, the innovative HP Designjet T2300 eMFP is also easy to use. An intuitive color touchscreen enables users to print, scan and copy with the click of a button. And with HP ePrint & Share, architects can view true-to-life print previews, so pages look right the first time they’re printed, saving time and materials. HP ePrint & Share also allows users to automatically create print-ready PDFs instantly in their Autodesk® products, including AutoCAD®.
Del Campo appreciates the simplicity. “You don’t want to play around inside of a printer for an entire day,” he says. “You want the perfect result right now.” He adds that because of the improved collaboration, mobility, simplicity and speed, he believes his firm will gain a new advantage.
“Because of the productivity this technology allows us, we’re capable of competing with companies that are far larger than we are.”
1 Upgraded functionality is scheduled to be available in 2011. Requires an internet connection to the printer. |
