HP Indigo digital presses allow Coca-Cola® to get personal

  • Print hundreds of millions of personalized bottle labels for Coca-Cola®, Coca-Cola Zero® and Coca-Cola® light, featuring the most common first names for each European country, while meeting stringent quality, technical and delivery requirements.
  • Label and packaging company Eshuis was looking to combine digital and conventional printing on ultra-thin adhesive film with completely consistent print quality and color that met strict requirements.
  • The iconic Coca-Cola red required precise color matching, and it was essential to ensure color consistency across multiple label converters and digital presses.

  • Four HP Indigo WS6600 Digital Presses and eight HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Presses handled the "Share a Coke®" campaign around the clock for 3 months.
  • Coca-Cola used special ink, pre-mixed by HP Indigo and developed specifically to match the company’s iconic red.
  • Eshuis managed the whole project—using 8 digital label converters to print variable data areas and 10 conventional printers to print static areas.

  • Approximately 800 million personalized labels were printed with the top 150 names in each of more than 32 European countries, in 15 languages and five different alphabets, with total consistency across the eight digital printing sites.
  • The weight and density of finished labels matched Coca-Cola's standards—enabling bottling plants to run at regular high speeds.
  • The outstanding color accuracy of the HP-developed red ink prompted Coca-Cola to use it as a standard.
